Romantic Maldives: 8 days, one island, one very good room
A honeymoon here is a room and a reef. Everything else is decoration. So this itinerary spends its budget on the villa and on choosing an island where the water under it is deep and clear, and spends very little on scheduled activity, because scheduling a honeymoon is generally a mistake.

Who it suits: honeymoons, anniversaries, and anyone whose idea of a good week is two people, warm water and nothing in the diary.
Day by day
Day 1: Arrive Malé, transfer to the island. Met before immigration, then a speedboat or a seaplane depending on the island and your flight time. On honeymoon files we lean towards seaplane islands more often than usual, because the far atolls are quieter and the flight itself is a genuinely good hour. Where that pushes against a late arrival, we build a night at a Hulhumalé hotel rather than compressing the day.
Day 2: Nothing. Late breakfast on the deck, the house reef, an afternoon indoors when the sun is at its worst, and a table at the water’s edge for dinner. Our document tells you where the light is at six.
Day 3: A private sandbank. Dropped alone on a strip of sand with an umbrella, a cool box and a pick-up time three hours later. Of everything a Maldivian resort sells, this is the one we recommend most and it is rarely the most expensive.
Day 4: The reef. A private boat rather than a shared one, to a manta cleaning station or a channel depending on the season and the atoll. Two or three hours, back before lunch.
Day 5: Free. A spa afternoon if that is your thing, and a dolphin cruise at dusk if it is not. Both are on almost every island and both are usually worth the money.
Day 6: Free. This is the day people tell us about afterwards, and it never has anything in it.
Day 7: A dinner worth planning around. Most islands have one restaurant that is genuinely better than the rest, and on some there is a table on the sand or a private beach dinner that is not a gimmick. We book it when it is good and we tell you when it is not.
Day 8: Transfer to Malé and fly home. Late checkout or a day room where the flight is a night flight, arranged at the time of booking.
What is included
Seven nights in an overwater villa or a beach villa with a pool, chosen island by island rather than by category, half board with a dinner upgrade or full board where that is better value, all transfers, meet and assist, a private sandbank drop, one private reef excursion, a honeymoon amenity arranged with the resort where you are travelling within the period they recognise, a day room on departure where needed, all taxes and the green tax, and a WhatsApp group with our Delhi office and our partners in Malé.
Which overwater villa is worth it
This is where we earn the fee, because roughly half of the overwater villas sold as honeymoon rooms are not worth the supplement.
What you are paying for is three things: deep clear water directly beneath the deck, privacy from neighbouring villas and from any walkway, and a ladder into water you would actually want to swim in. Where all three are true, an overwater villa is one of the better hotel rooms in the world. Where the villa sits over pale shallow sand, faces a public jetty, or is one of forty in a row with a two-metre gap between decks, a beach villa with a private pool and the reef ten steps away is a better room for less money, and we will recommend it.

Honest notes
Peak honeymoon season, late December through March, is also peak price. Late April, early November and September buy a materially better room for the same money, with more weather risk.
Two islands in eight nights sounds romantic and mostly is not. It costs a transfer day and a second set of transfer fees, and the second island rarely improves on the first. We build it when the two islands are genuinely different, and we say so when they are not.
A resort that is excellent for couples is often poor for anyone else and the reverse. If you are honeymooning on a family island because the rate was good, expect a family island.
